Or install from Adobe Exchange
CreateCutline is also on Adobe Exchange. Buy it there and the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app installs it for you: nothing to download, no licence key to enter. It is the same plug-in at the same price, without the trial.
Already have the trial from this page installed? The Exchange copy replaces it. Restart Illustrator after installing.
Requirements
Release history
The download buttons above always give you the current release, version 1.2.2. Updates are included with a licence, and install over the top.
Installer fixes.
- Installing without administrator permission now produces a working panel, and reinstalling over the same version really reinstalls.
- The Windows download includes an uninstaller.
Performance and smoothing improvements.
- Much faster: cutlines that took ten to twenty seconds now take about one, and a sheet of hundreds of objects went from sixteen seconds to about six.
- Traced images no longer grow spikes off a speckled edge, and at smoothness 0 the cutline is simply the offset of your artwork.
- Points and tips come out clean at high smoothness, the cutline holds the offset you asked for, and there is more smoothing available at the top of the slider.
Artwork detection improvements.
- Better detection of what counts as artwork: hidden and invisible objects, guides and non-printing layers no longer shape the cutline, and clipping masks of any shape are honoured.
- Sharp corners follow the smoothness slider, very large placed images are traced rather than boxed, and every artboard that holds art gets a cutline.
- A cutline that would cross the artwork is refused instead of shipped, and the plug-in is faster on most files.
One cutline round everything is the default again, and cropped artwork no longer cuts as a box.
- Separate designs on one sheet go back to sharing a single cutline. The checkbox is now "Group multiple designs" and it starts ticked - untick it to give every design its own cutline.
- Artwork cropped to its page with a rectangular clipping mask used to cut as a box round the whole sheet, empty paper included. The cutline now follows the artwork inside the crop.
- The progress window counts the cutlines it is building instead of restarting partway through.
A shape inside another shape no longer gets its own second cutline.
- With "Group multiple objects" off, a detail inside a larger shape - a circle on a blob, a hole in a card - could get a second cutline drawn over the artwork. It no longer does.
- Nothing else changes: every other file gives exactly the result it gave in 1.1.0.
Separate designs on one sheet now get their own cutlines.
- A sheet of several stickers gets one cutline per design. A logo made of separate pieces still gets one.
- New "Group multiple objects" checkbox for one outline around everything. Off by default.
- Fixes "No artwork found" when pasting new artwork into a document you have already used.
- Large images, images on a white background, live Image Trace objects and placed PDFs now get a contour instead of a box.
Licence activation fix. Install this if you bought a licence and version 1.0 would not accept your key.
- Fixes licence keys being rejected as belonging to a different product.
- No change to how cutlines are generated: the engine is unchanged at 1.33.
- Your trial or licence is stored separately and carries over.
First public release. The panel, the trial, and licence activation.
- Automatic shape, offset and corner radius, with manual override on each.
- Negative offsets for kiss-cut and thru-cut work.
- Smoothing slider between an exact trace and a relaxed cut line.
- Works from placed raster artwork as well as vector.
- Seven-day free trial, then a one-time $20 licence.
- Adobe Illustrator 2025 and 2026, macOS and Windows.
