For a Kongsberg job, create the required closed contour in Illustrator, then use the Kongsberg ai-cut workflow to assign line types and layers, add camera marks or job metadata, and prepare the file for i-cut Production Console. CreateCutline automates the outside contour before those Kongsberg-specific steps.
Separate path creation from table setup
Kongsberg's ai-cut Illustrator plug-in is designed to apply line types and layers, create camera-registration data, add job metadata, and connect the file to i-cut Production Console. Those are production functions.
The earlier design task is deciding where the table should cut and producing a clean path. That is where CreateCutline fits: it turns selected vector or raster artwork into one editable Illustrator contour.
Manual Kongsberg workflow
- Draw or derive one closed outside contour.
- Apply the required offset for bleed or inside cutting.
- Remove duplicate paths, small holes, and trace noise.
- Assign the path to the required Kongsberg line type and layer with ai-cut.
- Add topside or underside camera marks when the workflow requires them.
- Add material and job metadata.
- Open the job in i-cut Production Console and verify every operation.
Create the contour with CreateCutline
Select the artwork, open the panel, set the offset, and press Create Cutline.
The plug-in creates a top-level Cutline layer containing one closed vector
path and leaves the original artwork unchanged.
Use ai-cut after that to assign the Kongsberg operation. The generated
CutContour spot-colour stroke is useful visual and workflow metadata, but the
line type selected for i-cut Production Console controls the table operation.
Check the Kongsberg job
- Confirm the contour maps to the intended knife or routing operation.
- Make sure duplicate vectors will not run the same edge twice.
- Preserve the file scale and the relationship between graphics and marks.
- Confirm whether marks are topside or underside.
- Check material metadata and tool selection in i-cut Production Console.
- Preview the job before starting the table.
Kongsberg cutline questions
Does CreateCutline replace ai-cut?
No. CreateCutline builds the geometry. ai-cut adds Kongsberg line types, marks, metadata, and the production handoff.
Does it work with raster artwork?
Yes. A placed image can be the source, while the contour sent to i-cut remains vector.
Can I edit the generated path?
Yes. It is a normal Illustrator path on its own layer and can be adjusted before operation mapping.
Generate the path, then prepare it for i-cut
